A Month to Walk Away, Choose Love, and Embrace Your True Path

Hey beautiful souls,
July is here, and let me tell you, it’s not playing around. This month’s reading is as deep and transformational as they come. When I pulled the 8 of Cups and The Lovers, I knew instantly: this is a call to walk away from what no longer nourishes the soul and choose, consciously, what does.
But here’s where it gets extra potent: I just returned from a powerful vision quest and shamanic training, one that cracked me wide open and made these cards resonate on a whole new level. As a result of this soul journey, I’ve stepped into a new name, a new identity: Mojave Sky Hawk. More on that later, but first, let’s get into the reading.
The 8 of Cups: The Quiet Goodbye

The 8 of Cups is all about letting go. But not just any kind of letting go, we’re talking about walking away from something that once brought comfort, something familiar. This card asks:
Are you brave enough to leave what’s “okay” in order to find what’s true?
Emotionally, this is a heavy hitter. There’s a sense of sadness, of course. But there’s also empowerment—this is the soul waking up and saying, “This isn’t it. I want more.”
This card showed up for me right after the vision quest, where I was asked to look, really look, at my habits, patterns, and old identities. Some of them were hard to face: unhealthy routines, a poor diet, neglect of the body that’s meant to carry my medicine. But this card whispered, “It’s time.”
The Lovers: More Than Just Romance

Now, onto The Lovers. Yes, it can point to relationships and soulmate vibes, but the deeper meaning? Choice. Alignment. Integration. It’s a card that says:
“You’re standing at a crossroads. Which path honors your soul?”
The Lovers asks us to align our outer lives with our inner truths. It’s about radical honesty with yourself—what do you really want? Who are you when no one’s watching? It invites integrity, alignment, and yes, love—but love that starts within.
This card struck deep for me. During my shamanic training, I faced my own reflection and realised I wasn’t fully walking my talk. I wasn’t honouring the path of the healer in body and spirit. And so, I chose. I chose to evolve.
When These Two Cards Come Together…
When the 8 of Cups and The Lovers show up together, the message is crystal clear:
Walk away from what is misaligned, and walk towards what brings you into harmony with your higher self.
This is about saying no to the distractions, the habits, the relationships, and even the roles that have kept you small. It’s about choosing yourself with fierce love and clear intention.
How This Might Show Up for You in July
This energy can ripple through your life in so many ways, but here are a few common threads:
In Relationships:
- You may outgrow old dynamics that were built on codependency or lack of authenticity.
- There could be a need to step back in order to reconnect with your truth.
- New partnerships may form, but only if they’re aligned with your soul.
In Work or Purpose:
- This could be the month you finally leave that draining job or project.
- You might feel called to pivot, realign, or even go back to the drawing board.
- Creative clarity is likely, especially when you choose based on passion, not pressure.
In Health and Self-Care:
- Old habits are ready to be shed, especially around food, rest, and movement.
- A new version of you is emerging, one that honours the body as sacred.
- It’s a great time to start a new routine that reflects who you’re becoming.
My Journey: Becoming Mojave Sky Hawk

During my recent vision quest and shamanic initiation, I was stripped bare—metaphorically and spiritually. I sat in the wilderness, listened to the land, fasted, journeyed, and asked for guidance. What was given to me was a name: Mojave Sky Hawk.
This wasn’t just a new title, it was a calling. A remembering.
I saw clearly where I had been living small, hiding behind outdated versions of myself. I saw the ways I needed to walk away (hello, 8 of Cups) and the ways I needed to consciously choose (hello, Lovers) the path that actually reflects who I am here to be: a healer, a guide, and a voice for the sacred.
From that experience, I’ve restructured my life, rethinking my diet, committing to daily movement, and anchoring deeper into my medicine path. And I invite you to do the same. Whatever your version of the vision quest is, listen to it.
Rituals & Practices to Align with This Energy
Want to work with this energy more intentionally? Here are a few ideas:
- Candle Meditation: Light two candles, one for what you’re releasing, one for what you’re embracing. Journal on each.
- Water Ceremony: The 8 of Cups is tied to water. Create a mini ritual near the ocean, river, or bath, and release what’s no longer needed into the flow.
- Choice Mapping: Draw a line down a page. On one side, list everything that drains you. On the other hand, everything that lights you up. Make one small change this week to honour the “light up” list.
- Heart-centred Movement: Whether it’s yoga, dance, or a walk in nature, move your body in a way that connects you to your inner guide.
FAQs
Q: Is the 8 of Cups always about leaving something behind?
Not always physically, but yes—energetically or emotionally. It’s about releasing attachments that no longer align.
Q: Can The Lovers mean I’m going to meet someone new this month?
Maybe! But more often it’s about the inner marriage—the union of mind, body, heart, and soul. When you’re aligned, the right people naturally show up.
Q: What if I’m scared to make a big change right now?
Totally valid. Big shifts don’t have to happen overnight. Start with small, intentional steps. The cards are here to guide, not pressure.
Parting Reflections
So, as we journey through this month, ask yourself:
What am I being called to release?
What am I finally ready to choose?
This July is a turning point, a sacred invitation to realign with your truth, heal old wounds, and step fully into your next chapter.
From the depth of the vision quest to the wisdom of the cards, this message is clear and urgent—it’s time to return to yourself.
With love from the heart of the path,
